Dear Friends,
Â
What does more than 250,000 pounds of donated food look like? An entire football field covered in thousands of yellow bags, with so much food that there was no room left on the field.
On Sunday, October 25, hundreds of New Jersey students accomplished something remarkable at Howell High School during Dermer Dreams’ second annual 100-Yard Food Drive Challenge, collecting more than 250,000 pounds of food for approximately 30 food bank partners throughout New Jersey.
What began with students collecting food in their neighborhoods grew into an incredible statewide effort involving schools, families, businesses and volunteers. By afternoon, the football field was a sea of yellow, with thousands of additional pounds of donations lining the sidelines. Even the Howell High School football team joined volunteers to help clear the field.
This is a powerful visual and human-interest story about student leadership, community action and the fight against hunger, with the potential to inspire schools and communities across the country.
Dermer Dreams gratefully acknowledges its community supporters, including Bayshore Family of Companies, New Jersey Natural Gas, New York Giants Football, SPARROW Executive Jets, Vin Gopal Civic Association and Wegmans Food Markets, Inc., along with the participating schools, students, families, volunteers and food bank partners who helped make the event possible.
